Avant Cycles - McHenry Introduce

Avant Cycles - McHenry, situated at 3318 Pearl St, McHenry, IL 60050, operates as a bicycle shop with a focus on TREK brand products. As a part of the "Bicycle Shops Near Me" category, it's important to note the shop's specialization and limitations based on customer feedback.

Recent customer reviews indicate that Avant Cycles has transitioned towards primarily servicing and selling TREK bicycles. This has led to concerns regarding their willingness to repair other brands, especially e-bikes. Customers have reported difficulties in getting non-TREK e-bikes serviced, and have also mentioned that the shop primarily offers high-end, expensive TREK models.

Key observations from customer reviews include:

  • Limited service for non-TREK bikes, particularly e-bikes.
  • Focus on high-priced TREK bicycles.
  • Concerns about customer service and communication.
  • Issues with warranty and liability regarding non-TREK brands.
  • Problems with bike maintenance and part replacement.
  • Issues with communication regarding store closures and bike transfers.

Customers have expressed disappointment with the shop's refusal to service bikes not sold or branded by TREK, citing "liability" as a reason. There are also reports of poor communication regarding store closures and the handling of customer bikes, as well as issues with missing or broken parts following service.

While some customers acknowledge the friendliness of staff members like Nathan, the overall sentiment highlights significant limitations in service and customer satisfaction. It is recommended that potential customers, especially those with non-TREK bikes, consider these reviews when seeking bicycle services at Avant Cycles - McHenry.

For inquiries, you can contact Avant Cycles - McHenry at (815) 385-4642 or +1 815-385-4642. Please be aware of the potential limitations in service based on the provided customer reviews.

At some point Avant sold out to the TREK bicycle brand, so don't even think they'll entertain repairing ANY other brands of E-Bike unless you bought it directly from. Oh, their e-bikes in house they'll sell you also all cost thousands of dollars. No cheap or budget options here. Have been coming here for the past 15 years with family, now horribly disappointed and have to drive out of town to get my daily transportation fixed. Couldn't even give a recommendation of another shop to take my bike to either, just told us to "call the manufacturer!" They at least entertained repairing my old Columbia, but ultimately never found parts for it. Nathan was always nice, but what good is a bike shop if they just flat out refuse to work on any bikes they don't get commission for? Edit: Responding to the owner's response, I was not told at ANY POINT that it was an issue with "voiding the warranty" with the bike, just flat out that my bike would not be seen or worked on because it wasn't sold from or a brand sold by Avant. It was a "liability" for them. Not that that voiding the warranty would even matter in my case, as I bought the bike secondhand meaning I have NO warranty with the manufacturer regardless. They took in zero information on my bike and flat out refused service straight out because it wasn't the TREK brand. Period. Also, it's Jesper, not Jasper. I have already taken my business elsewhere, my bike was immediately taken by a shop in Crystal Lake with no issues, even telling me it was a good brand of bike and that the part I need replaced is only about 20$. I've been happy to give them my money for the tune up and repair costs, since they will at least actually SEE my bike, on top of fixing it and cleaning it without lying to my face about the REAL reasons they won't service my bike.

I brought my bike in for routine maintenance at the Woodstock location on January 13th, after 2 weeks of no call that my bike was done I went to the shop and found it was closed. I wasn’t notified the store was closing or had closed on January 20th, I then called the McHenry location to see what happened to my bike and where it was - they could not tell me exactly where it was until February 6th. The bike was moved to the Lake Geneva location and still was not ready for me to pick up, they then moved it to the McHenry location so I could finally pick it up (on February 10th). When I arrived 2 of the mount plugs were missing and 1 isospeed cap was broken, I was told they would order the parts and call me when they came in - it’s currently 2/24 and still no call. I ordered the isospeed covers directly from Trek that day (2/10) and received them just days later. I’m disappointed in the quality of communication and service provided as I am in the service industry as well, hopefully other customers have not had the same experience.

Since the owner apparently enjoys leaving condescending replies and nonsense excuses, I'm giving them another opportunity to do so. Avant Cycles sold out to Trek and won't work on many bike brands now. They pretend they are concerned about voiding the bike's warranty, but that is obviously an issue for the bike owner to consider. If they viewed this as a potential liability, they could simply have customers sign a waiver and release, acknowledging that the requested work may void manufacturer warranties in some cases. They also make excuses about not being able to work on every bike brand ever made, as if the brand name of the bike changes how you work on a Tektro brake system, a Shimano gear shifter, how you change a Kenda tire, or how you work on any of the other standard components shared by almost all bicycles. Have fun with your condescending reply.

Didn't have the right innertube so he tried to sell me the next closest thing. Claiming "I have this on my personal bike" instead of just ordering me the proper stuff. Just go to Amazon. Even they have better customer service. Gave it a second chance... they still don't carry a 20x4.0 tube. What a lame shop with over priced junk.

Not what they use to be... Went from McHenry's local bike shop to a Trek Bike dealer that turns away non Trek bikes. I've spent hundreds here between a fork install, tires, brakes, shifter replacement, etc, over the last few years. Not anymore I guess. Remember kids, support local businesses, not corporate thugs.
