I bought an older Trek 2300 and brought it to Cranky Monkey to have all the old parts replaced. I asked Julian if he could replace all the parts that wear out, inspect it and make the bike safe and functional for training. He said he'd inspect it and the repairs and replacement parts would be around $400-450 and take 3 or 4 days. On returning after 4 days to get the bike he said it wasn't ready because he was waiting on parts. He could have called to let me know he was waiting on parts and saved me a trip to his shop but he didn't. Then he gave me another time estimate of about a week for the part he said was hard to find. After the fact, I looked up the part and found I could have had it delivered to my place in 2 or 3 days. I stopped by after two weeks during posted hours but the shop was closed. I left a message but didn't hear back. After not hearing from him for nearly a month and a half, I finally went back to see when my bike would be ready. He said it had been ready for a while and that he had called and left multiple messages. I had no messages, emails or any evidence of an attempt to reach me. He rang me up on the spot at $450 and after I insisted, gave me a discount for having to wait so long. After I paid him in cash so I asked for a receipt but he wasn't able to print one so he had me take a picture of the register. I asked if he could confirm my phone number since he said he left messages but I didn't have any evidence that he'd attempted to contact me. He said, "Maybe I wrote it down wrong or dialed it wrong by one number." He never showed me the contact info he used to call. I had to insist that he create a profile in his computer system so he'd have my contact info for the next time. When I got the bike home and took it for a ride, the gear shifter cable shredded through the tubing. (see photo) That's a part he didn't recommend replacing. He had charged me for parts and labor to replace the brake and shifter cables but had not replaced the tubing. I was relying on him to be the expert in bike safety to recommend the parts needing replacement so I wasn't very happy when he said he'd have to charge me for the tubing, cables and labor again to fix a problem that wouldn't have happened if he'd had completed the work right the first time. I taught myself how to change the break and gear tubing and cables and now my bike is working again. Even though Julian gave me a discount, I still feel this review deserves only one star because of poor communication, inability to print out a proper receipt, not holding to posted business hours, dishonesty and poor workmanship.

I called multiple times over several days (during business hours) and no one ever answered. I decided to head down there during business hours and the shop was open but no one was there. Stood inside the shop for over 10 minutes then waited outside, no one ever showed. The shop is a mess and is probably indicative of the type of service you’ll get. I took my bikes over to Dream Cycle in the plaza right next door. They were open during business hours and the staff greeted me!!! This shop was very organized and looks like a reputable business. Go there instead.

Avoid this place. Bad communication, extra charges, long delays on repairs. The guy adds charges and doesn't even appear to have actually done the work he claimed to do. Where to start... My old shop just closed so I thought I'd try this shop out with a simple repair. My rear brakes had a leak. I dropped my bike off and Julian said it would be a couple days. He also said he would call me if it was going to be longer than that. Almost two weeks later , I called him and he said he was working on it. He finally called me another week later and I came to get it. While picking it up, he charged me for a tune-up that I did not request. I just needed a simple brake repair but he decided to give my bike a tune-up for some reason too??. There was no evidence of a tune-up except for some greased bolts. I was in a hurry so I paid and then called him. He said I can bring the bike in cause there is a warranty on the tune -up. I said I didn't want a tune-up and I don't even think you tuned it up cause my bike is still dirty and doesn't shift well. Anyway, I recommend going anywhere but here.

I have to stop at every bike shop isee, i don't like to shop online or order something without holding it, checking it out with my discerning eye 🤔. Also I'm a scavenger ineed to ask about used or spare parts. Super helpful store owner answered all my questions as he wrenched on a bike and let me check out his merch without hovering or trying to promote every product i touch. (because i have to hold stuff) Left the store with a sweet pair of Serfas shades and some silicone bar grips for real low cheap! And I'll be returning to have my bottom bracket checked out! Cranky Monkey presented good solutions before talking about replacing parts

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! I’ve literally never left a review in my life but this was insane. This guy is sketchy. He said it would be 3-4 days. On day 5 I called and left a VM, nothing. On day 6 I showed up and the shop was locked up during his defined normal business hours. All in all it was 2 weeks, 15 calls to a VM that eventually said it was full and 6 stop byes to a locked up shop and he had done nothing. Trust the other reviews and go to Shadetree or somewhere reputable and that cares about customers and communicating
