Wheelfine Imports Pro Bike Shop Introduce

Wheelfine Imports Pro Bike Shop, located at 639 Brunswick Pike, Lambertville, NJ 08530, is a bicycle shop offering bike repairs and parts. You can contact them at (609) 397-3403 or +1 609-397-3403.

Customer reviews present a highly polarized view of this business. Some customers praise the owner, Michael, for his expertise, particularly with Campagnolo parts, and his ability to solve complex bike problems. They also appreciate his fair pricing and engaging conversation.

However, a significant number of reviews describe very negative experiences. These reviews raise serious concerns about the shop's business practices. Key concerns include:

  • Allegations of selling customers' bikes without proper notification or due process.
  • Accusations of demanding cash payments and avoiding credit card transactions, potentially for tax avoidance.
  • Reports of significant upcharges for services.
  • Claims of aggressive and erratic behavior from the owner.
  • Allegations of racist remarks.
  • Involvement of law enforcement due to disputes with customers.

Specifically, one customer reported that their bike was sold without prior contact, and that the owner provided inconsistent explanations to both the customer and the police. This customer also alleges that the owner attempted to force a cash payment and significantly increased the price of a tune-up.

Another customer reported a similar experience, with their bike allegedly sold and the owner demanding cash payment. They also alleged that the owner refused to provide paperwork for transactions.

Given the stark contrast in customer experiences, potential customers should exercise caution and carefully consider the reported issues before entrusting their bicycles to Wheelfine Imports Pro Bike Shop.

Michael is a genius. He found and corrected problems either overlooked or even caused by other mechanics. And if that's not enough, his pricing is fair, his knowledge is bottomless AND it's great fun to chat with him. He also has an amazing stock of hard-to-find (or even otherwise impossible-to-find) parts, especially Campy bits. Generous with his time and his knowledge and a nice guy, too. Highly recommended!

**Update: The police were called and the incident was documented. Court hearing to follow. This was not the first time the police had to respond to this business. I wanted to point out and few things about the “owners response”. The response was preloaded as if this is a common issue and clearly not done by the owner. The owner would not be able to articulate himself as done in the response. The shop has a lawyer on standby since this is not the first time he has been accused of this. When questioned about the policy the owner lied to the police and told them that the policy was hanging but has since been damaged by “water”. A copy of the policy could not be provided. Additionally, there was no attempt call prior to my bike being sold. This was verified with my phone carrier. There was also no “decline” or “not active” status on my debit card. This was verified with my bank. It was also not 24 months and I did attempt to pick up the bike but the owner would only take “cash”. The up charge I mentioned started as a $80 tune up and ended as a $180 “repair” when nothing was wrong with the bike. The bike was worth $1500. Unfortunately, this is theft and there will be consequences. There are also ways to tips off the IRS of businesses avoiding taxes which has been done. You can’t just do cash jobs to minimize your documented income hence why he uses no paperwork for transactions and tells you the credit card machine isn’t working. Do not go into this shop the guy is aggressive and deranged. Always ranting about politics and will let some racist remarks out as he did when describing how the credit card companies outsource everything to foreign countries. As soon as I showed him a picture of my bike he started getting verbally violent and accused me of stealing the bike and using fake credit cards. Willing to do anything to get an extra buck out of you. **Do not leave your bike here** Awful experience. Same situation as another review here. Claims his credit card machine doesn’t work to force you to use cash. Classic sign of tax avoidance. Also doesn't use paper work so there is no trail of agreed upon work. He up charged me 80$ on a regular tuneup. Additionally, as the credit card machine wasn’t working the day of service I didn’t go back for the bike for a while. When I came back to pick up the bike he informed me he sold the bike and then accused me of stealing the bike and using fake credit cards to pay for the service. The guy is a classic scam artist. Be careful leaving your bike here.

I came to Michael Johnson at Wheelfine Imports more or less out of desperation. A broken chain link had destroyed my rear derailleur, and in the process, bent the derailleur hanger into a “J” shape. I tried bending it back, but gave up when it became clear I wouldn’t be able get it back into shape. The usual fix would be to weld on a new hanger, but the frame is a combination Reynolds 535 and graphite composite, and there was a graphite transition very close to the hanger, making welding all but impossible. The frame manufacturer declined to service the frame, and a very reputable bike shop told me that welding wouldn’t be feasible for them. But they did recommend that I bring it to Michael Johnson at Wheelfine and said if anyone can fix it, he’s the one. So I brought the frame to Wheelfine. He took a quick look at it, put the hanger in a vice, and with deft hands and a good deal of confidence, bent the hanger back to the right shape. He retapped the threads for the derailleur and made the fine adjustment to true the hanger to the plane of the wheel. He let me watch the entire process, and I felt that I was in the presence of a master. The rest of the repair was pretty routine, replace broken spoke, true the wheels, mount and adjust new derailleur and chain. I feel as though I have a brand new bike after almost giving up on it and scraping it for parts. I would not hesitate to recommend Michael Johnson and Wheelfine to anyone. The depth of his knowledge and skill is incomparable.

Wheelfine is THE place to go if you are serious about cycling. Mike is hands down the best bike mechanic I have ever dealt with. He does good honest work at a very fair price. He can fix things you didn’t even know were wrong with your bike. I had my 1976 masi serviced after having it put together at a local shop. After having mike work on it, it was like a completely different bike. Mike is truly a master with bikes especially the older bikes that others don’t/won’t work on. Could not recommend this shop enough!

Mike is a master at building wheels. He built them for my bike as well as my wife's bike and they are the most comfortable yet responsive wheels we have ever ridden , both factory and custom made.
