I've spent the last year regretting buying a new bike from Bicycle Discovery. SUMMARY: I bought a bike here and it had issues that were difficult to get resolved post-purchase. The two free tuneups are valued at $90 each, but the results fell far short of service I have received from other shops (e.g., Jax, REI, or Mike's Bikes) at a similar price point. The staff were dismissive of my concerns or provided excuses and "quick fixes" rather than just making things right. I would recommend looking elsewhere for any bicycle purchase or service. ----------------------------- I purchased a Trek FX3 here in July of 2023. I have ridden road bikes for the past 10 years and was looking for a commuter bike. I asked if they would do a quick fitting if I purchased the bike and was told, "it's basically the same concept as a road bike, so it should be pretty easy to do it yourself." The bike shop I usually go to (Jax in Irvine, who btw do free basic fits with every purchase) did not have the bike in stock, so I bought it from Bicycle Discovery despite being a little put off by the refusal for this basic service. After a few rides on my brand new bike, I began experiencing vibration in the handlebars while braking. I had to bring the bike back in four times within the first month of owning it and was continuously met with pushback ("I don't really notice it") or rationalizing ("some vibration is normal") to get me back out the door. Finally I brought another rider with me (they have had a Trek Verve 2 for over 5 years and never had any issues with vibration) to confirm that the issue was not normal. I'm not sure what they did at this point, but the issue finally seemed to be resolved after that visit. Bicycle Discovery offers two free tuneups in the first year after purchase, recommended at 4 and 12 months. As it took almost 2 months after purchase to get the vibration issue fixed, I opted to skip the 4-month tune and brought it in at 12-months. They told me it would be done the next day, but in actuality it took five days (which is totally normal and acceptable, unless you tell someone it will be done in one). When I picked it up, I asked if it needed any parts or there was anything specific that had been done during the tune up and was effectively told, "Nah, just pretty standard tuneup stuff." When I dropped it off for the tuneup, I had mentioned that both disc brakes had been squealing a bit at low speeds. When I picked it up, the seat was extended up above the minimum marking line, and then they just dropped it down to a random height (i.e., hadn't marked where I had it when I brought it in, which would have been super frustrating if they had provided a bike fit when I bought the thing). I took it home and found that the brakes were not only still squeaking but also covered in debris and buildup (pictures attached). They don't specify what these free tuneups entail, so I can't really hold them to any contractual standard (although it does say "$180 value"). Personally though, I was rather disappointed at how little or no TLC they gave to a bicycle purchased from their store. A little compressed air here-and-there or just a quick wipe-down with a cloth would have gone a long way. I am literally going to take my bike in for a tuneup at another shop soon. UPDATE: My brakes were still squealing after the complimentary "tune up" from Bicycle Discovery. I brought it in to Jax (on Culver Drive in Irvine); they finished a brake adjustment the same day I brought it in, and the squealing was completely gone afterward. The point being that my bike needed a $50 brake adjustment after a tuneup, valued at $90, from Bicycle Discovery (dated receipt from Jax is included in photos for more scrupulous readers of this review).

Tried 2 other closer to home bike shops for a rather simple bike repair & left disappointed. 3rd attempt was the winner at Bicycle Discovery. Everything needed was in-stock, immediately serviced, reasonable $cost$ & the staff handled everything perfectly. Very nice guys too. Now my go-to bike shop!

Super rude guy working the front desk. Couldn’t be bothered to point me in the right direction or answer any questions I had about a bike I bought there. One of the older techs in the back also made some disrespectful/rude comments to me about a question I asked regarding my bike. I’ll never go there or spend a dime of my money with them again .

After a somewhat disappointing visit to another bike shop, I decided to give Bicycle Discovery a try, even though it was 15 miles out of my way. Boy, am I glad I did! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the welcoming atmosphere. David was incredibly helpful and took the time to break down the pros and cons of tubeless tires for me. He didn’t just push the most expensive options but genuinely listened to my needs and guided me towards a set of tires that fit my budget and riding style perfectly. David let me know that I could come in the next day for the install, which was a huge relief compared to the 10-day wait at the other shop. True to his word, I came back the next day, and the install was quick and efficient. While I was there, I couldn’t resist taking a beach cruiser out for a test ride – didn’t really need another bike, but who can say no to adding another one or two to the collection? Overall, my experience at Bicycle Discovery was fantastic. The staff's personalized approach and genuine passion for cycling made all the difference. It's clear that they value their customers and go the extra mile to ensure satisfaction. I’ll definitely be back and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a reliable and friendly bike shop.
