Customer reviews present a mixed experience. Some customers have reported excellent service, particularly when working with Aaron and Charlie. They praised their assistance in purchasing a new Ibis Ripley, including custom part swaps and warranty support. However, other customers have expressed dissatisfaction with the shop's service.

Several reviews mention an "unfriendly service" and a "weird energy" at the shop. One customer described a recurring experience of being spoken to through locked crossbars at the entrance, which they found unusual. Additionally, there were reports of condescending attitudes and unhelpful responses when customers sought assistance with simple issues, such as a malfunctioning bike pump.

While some customers have had positive interactions, particularly with specific staff members, the overall sentiment indicates inconsistencies in customer service. Many customers have recommended alternative bike shops in the area, such as Adams Ave Bicycles, citing better service and a more welcoming environment.

Here are some key points from customer experiences:

  • Mixed reviews regarding customer service.
  • Positive experiences with specific staff members for bike purchases and repairs.
  • Reports of unfriendly and condescending service.
  • Unusual shop layout with locked crossbars at the entrance.
  • Recommendations for alternative bike shops in the area.

Customers considering Cal Coast Bicycles should be aware of the varying experiences reported in reviews. It is recommended to contact the shop directly for specific inquiries and to consider alternative local bike shops for comparison.

I worked with Aaron and Charlie for a new Ibis Ripley. They were both fantastic, including swapping a few parts to match my family’s fleet, double checking everything with me before building the bike, and quickly warrantying a small manufacturers defect with a rear brake set. Highly recommend!

Unfriendly Service. I recommend going 1 minute don’t the street to Adams Ave Bicycles. This bike shop is one a frequent as it is one I pass by during my daily bike ride to work. I have stopped by a few times to pump air into my tire, see what parts they have in stock, etc. and every time I have stopped in the energy is always weird. They have crossbars at the entrance that they keep locked during business hours so when you approach the door the associates are speaking to you from behind the bars before they let you in the store which is a very weird experience to have at a bike shop but idk what kind of crowd they get so maybe it’s not that weird. I have had 1 pleasant experience with 1 gentlemen out of the 8+ times I’ve been there which is why I am not giving the rating 1 star. The thing that made me write this review is my most recent experience. I stopped by on my way to work to pump out air into my tires. They keep a bike pump outside the entrance of the shop for bikers to use. I went o pump air into my tires and instead of air going into my tires I was losing pressure in my tire. Puzzled I went to the crossbars to see if someone could come take a look at the bike pump. As I am standing at the door someone is yelling at me from across the room “what’s up, what’s up?” (The lack of courtesy to walk to the crossbars and say “hey can I help you with anything” is beyond me but not a big deal) I tell him yeah the bike pump doesn’t seem to be working, either the bike pump is broken or I have a small hole in my tube (which is hard to believe cause I just biked 2 miles to get to this shop) he reluctantly comes outside and before looking at the pump says “well do you know how this type of bike valve works? Or how to pump air into the tire?” (The bike I am riding is very used so obviously I’ve pumped air into to tires before AND I have come to this exact shop several times to use this exact pump) slightly taken back I tell him yes I’ve had to bike for very long and have pump air into the tire way too many times. I then show him where I think the issue with the bike pump is he disregards and says “yeah you probably have a whole in the tube” I tell him that I just biked 2 miles so I would assume my tire would be flat by now if there was a hole. He agreed and started messing with the pump. He then discovered that yes the bike pump seems to have a leak in the seal and needs to be serviced. (I then was expecting him to provide some sort of alternative bike pump for me to use since this broken pump leaked most of all the air out of my back tire.) Instead he hands me back the broken pump “ yeah there’s a leak in it I’ll have to get it serviced but just pump harder and you should get some air. Good luck” then walks away. Because I was late to work and didn’t have time to walk down to the other bike shop. I pumped vigorously for about 3 minutes until my tire pressure barely reached 60psi. I then biked down the road to the other bike shop and filled up my tire to 110psi. I don’t know why the guy was condescending and then left me with a flat tire but I can say I will make it appoint to never go to this bike shop or by anything from there. Adams ave bike shop is a lot cleaner, better energy, and nicer people. I’d happily spend my money and take my service there instead

Found Cal Coast on while searching for bike shops near me. They had great reviews and had a Giant Revolt I wanted to check out in stock. The entire experience was pleasant. Gilbert greeted and helped me the entire time; ensure the bike was set up correctly, went through all adjustments and extras, etc. Could not have asked for a better cycle purchase experience, and will be going to Cal Coast for all my future needs.

I went to multiple bike stores on Adam's looking for a bike. It was only Cal Coast that greeted me upon entering, and asked me if I was looking specifically for a bike. "Yes, I am". The worker (can't remember the name) was friendly, attentive and walked me through every step of the process. The bike was perfect for my skill level at the time, and continues to hold up, after I took it through whats now hundreds of miles. It's actually due for a tune up I'm sure. Not sure how their other services are, but if you are specifically looking to purchase a bike and not sure what you need exactly, I think this is the place. I would rather go here than the busy, corporate, Trek store etc that tries to upsell you.

With much regret I need to revise my review of this shop after being berated by the person answering the phone when I tried to schedule a tune-up for a bike for which I spent close to $12,000 on a couple of years ago, an Ibis Ripley. I called yesterday as my bike needs a tune-up, and the first thing I said to the person, whose name I believe was Charlie, who answered the phone was I purchased my bike at your shop and I need a tune-up and need to know how the scheduling works on that, or something to that effect. Charlie then told me we don't schedule tune-ups and if you brought it in today we might be able to have it back to you on August 17th. I thought to myself you're kidding me right, you want me to drop my bike off for 2 weeks while you work on other bikes?!? It did take a couple of seconds for this to register in my mind and I actually started to chuckle at the absurdity of that as it made absolutely no sense that you would tell a bike owner that they will be unable to ride their bike for two weeks, while it sits idle in their shop, while they work on other bikes. In any event I told him no way dude and hung up the phone. If that was the end of the story, I would felt the need to revise my review, however Charlie felt compelled to call me back and berate me on the phone without letting me get a word in edgewise because he apparently he was offended and wanted to give me a piece of his mind on what jerk and how immature I was and then hung the phone up on me . Really? I'm not sure who Charlie is. If he's the owner, then I'm stunned the place has been in business for as long as it has with rhat philopsophy on customer service. If he's not, then the owner needs to get somebody else to deal with the public. In any event, I regret purchasing my bike there, I would never feel comfortable at this point bringing my bike in to get serviced as I'd be worried they might sabotage me, and I wish I had not recommended the shop as frequently as I have to as many people as I have. There are so many other bike shops out there, and my recommendation is to look at any other alternatives when considering purchasing a top end bike.
