One customer praised the shop's good selection of bikes and accessories, as well as the knowledgeable and friendly staff who helped them find the right bike. However, other customers have reported negative experiences, particularly regarding repair services and e-bike handling. This customer also reported being sold an incomplete part and having to seek repairs elsewhere. Another customer felt that the shop promoted high-end equipment, making them feel unwelcome due to their budget. This indicates a potential inconsistency in service quality and a possible bias towards higher-priced bikes. The shop does sell a selection of bikes, including the Sirrus X.

Key features and services highlighted by customers include:

  • Bike Sales: Offering a selection of bikes, including the Sirrus X.
  • Bike Accessories: Providing a variety of bike accessories.
  • Knowledgeable Staff (Sales): Some staff praised for their knowledge in bike sales.
  • Inconsistent Repair Service: Some customers report poor repair service.
  • E-Bike Bias: Potential bias against lower-priced e-bikes.
  • Incomplete Part Sales: Report of selling incomplete parts.
  • Potential High-End Bias: Potential bias towards higher-priced equipment.

Customers have expressed mixed reviews regarding the shop's service, with praise for bike sales and concerns about repair quality and e-bike handling. I recently moved to Johnson City. There are so many off road places to ride down here I thought to get a bike, after years of not having one. The Bike Shop has a good selection of styles and accessories, and the guys who run the shop were really knowledgeable, friendly and helpful in finding the right bike for me. I came away with a sweet Sirrus X that really suits my needs, and have been having a blast on the "rails to trails" for the last couple of weeks. The Bike Shop is definitely my store and I can't recommend them strongly enough!

Not a bad looking shop but the service was lacking. My husband called the shop and asked if they could install a left pedal crank for my e-bike. The guy said they could, so I hauled the bike into the car and drove over there myself after work, but when I got there he told me we had never mentioned it was an e-bike. Then he made a bunch of comments about how my $700 bike was a cheap Chinese brand, and he won’t allow me to bring my bike into the shop unless it’s one of the $1200+ bikes they sell directly at the shop, because it’s an explosion/fire hazard. He made a bunch of comments about how I should be afraid to charge my bike because it may explode, and basically made me feel like this is a hobby only intended for people who can afford to dish out over a grand on the nicest equipment. It just felt like the whole crew had their noses turned up to me and made me realize there are people in every area of interest who will try to convince you that you can’t afford to ride an e-bike unless you make a ton of money and can buy the nicest quality equipment. We don’t make a lot of money, but put a lot of research into looking for an entry level e-bike in our price range so I knew it wasn’t a “cheap Chinese brand” like they told me, even if it isn’t a $1200 bike. He sold me a part for $30 but didn’t sell me the other part I needed, so went home and realized I had made the trip and spent $30 for nothing. We called Overmountain Cycles by the Tweetsie Trail the next day and the guy told me I could bring my bike in the same day. He replaced the part himself in less than a day and only charged me $10 so I tipped him $20 since he originally quoted me $30. Guy was incredibly friendly and seems to just love spreading the joy of biking, so I’d highly recommend that if you’ve read my review this far, you take your business there instead. I’ll be a lifetime customer for sure, he was very friendly and even taught me some general repair stuff. He didn’t mention my e-bike being dangerous or cheap-o. I’ve now put over 200 miles on my bike and charged it every day and the battery and quality seem to be just fine! I plan to take it back to the Overmountain Cycle shop next week just to have it looked over since I’ve done some off road biking with it, and want to keep it well maintained. That being said, I will be going to Overmountain Cylces and not The Bike Shop, going forward, as the guy there seems to be very friendly, fast, and educational and just generally have better quality of service! 😊

I build motorized bikes, and I had went to the bike shop to pickup a part. I needed a sprocket, a freewheel sprocket, and I had called to make sure that they had one of what I needed. So after being told they did have what I was looking for I got someone to drive me over, because I don't drive. The younger man called an older man up because he thought he wouldn't be able to help me. I already knew what I needed and that's what I ask for. The older guy asked me a few questions and 8 told him all I needed was the sprocket because I had the wheel. He tried to tell me what I was trying to do wouldn't be possible. He saw my wheel because I took it in with me because I just wanted to get a look at it before paying for it. This man had no idea that I had ordered a heavy duty rim basically made for motorized bikes. He didn't have a clue what he was talking about because he wouldn't shut up long enough to listen to what 8 was telling him. So I finally just had to ask Are you going to ring this up or do I need to get the young man to? I told him that I either pay for the one I have my hand or I go somewhere else and buy one. It worked great. I no longer get parts from this shop or any other shop in the area. I order all of my parts from eBay, Amazon, Walmart and other places that deal with various items, including bicycle parts. Just because someone works in a bicycle store or shop doesn't necessarily mean they know what they're doing!!!

Nothing but great things to say about The Bike Shop! Jordan and Joel are awesome people to deal with. Jordan went out of his way to talk about the features and different adjustments possible on the Rockhopper Comp, and so far the bike has lived up to expectations. The store has anything you can think of under the sun in stock, and they also offer in house financing. These guys know their craft, and are super patient with any dumb questions you may have. Go see em!!

Very thankful for @thebikeshopjc. I've always been rather hesitant with who I let work on my bike, but I trust The Bike Shop. Their staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I have had a lot of different work done through these guys, road and mountain bikes, and they are consistently great!
