An innovative and life changing product I've fitted to a disabled friends hand cycle. The wireless 2 button remote has been fitted to the left hand grip because she has arthritis in her right wrist. Having the wireless remote has removed a regular service issue with conventional cable connected shifters. Because of the continuous circular motion of hand cycle cranks, conventional shifter cables only last a 3 or 400 miles before they break. This is no longer an issue. One of the D1X main features is that it will work with any derailleur and its setup is fantastic as you can individually fine tune the position of each individual gear to achieve the perfect shift every time. We have an early version that requires battery removal for charging in both the shifter and the remote, but newer remotes I believe now have USB charging. We average 30 to 40 miles on a day out ride and now check to see if the batteries need charging after 3 rides via the battery level indicator on the mobile phone app. The accompanying app is used for setup, but can also be used as a remote shifter which came in handy recently after my friend forgot to check the remote battery level and it ran out when we were a good distance from home. Was a genuine fun journey back as I was riding alongside and making the shift changes from my phone mounted on to the handlebars of my bike for her. Highly recommend this Archer Components D1X shifter. It's genuinely provided a life changing cycling experience for our friend to be able to now comfortably and reliably use her hand cycle. I have no doubt that it will work equally as well on a conventional bicycle. Only minor gripe is the shipping cost to the UK. Was considering upgrading to the Sprint batteries, but the $52 shipping seems a lot for 3 small batteries. Archer could do with finding a UK distributor.

I bought the Trail DX and converted my 2008 Cervelo P3C to a one up front and the Trail DX with a mountain bike rear cassette to give me the same range I had before. I mounted the wireless shifter on my aerobars, and it works pretty well. i had some trouble initially but Archer was able to troubleshoot this with me. All the competing bluetooth in transition was confusing my remote but was as easy as not changing gears until after you hit the mount line which is not really a problem. I also had some issues after a particularly wet half-iron but again they took my unit revamped it and sure enough there was water in it, this has been solved and no issues since.

Shifting is smooth, reliable indexing, and new rocket button remote is rechargeable on bike - no more undoing tiny screws to access battery to charge. So easy to fit DIY or at LBS and tune via App. Cheapest wireless system with so much adaptability to any existing cable gear mech! On my Handcycle where wireless rules.

Purchased the D1x to jump into the electronic shifting game. I ordered the older push-button shifter with the "light" feel. I really liked the push interface and the easy-push buttons. Unfortunately the remote started to have connection issues. The customer service was awesome and a replacement was sent out. But again I had connection issues. After receiving a new paddle shifter, I haven't had any connection issues. I love the shifter and it's ability to connect with whatever I throw at it. The battery lift is great. Excited to see what more Archer comes up with!

Changing the batteries could be designed better. I need to hold the back of my bike up and shake it to get them out. Removing the battery from the remote is done from the underside, again could be easier. Plugging a charger in would be much easier than changing 3 batteries from 2 compartments. It's easy to miss that the system is going flat and I've been caught out many times and had to cycle home in one gear. It's a cool product, i love how it can be adjusted while cycling but more of a novelty unless you need an electric shifter for some reason.
