Kent of California Ebike has been an incredible resource through diy 2 mid drive ebike builds. So responsive, trust worthy, thoughtful & ingenious. I only wish that I could give more than 5 stars. I even gave him extra money twice, despite my extremely tight budget & will give more when I can afford to (not that he would ever ask for or demand it).

California E-Bike Did Me Right! I having been shopping for ebikes for over two years. I test rode dozens of bikes. My riding buddies are on Specialized Levo and Trek Rail. As an over 2 decade MTBer I have a state of the art dual suspended carbon 12 speed XC analog mountain bike that I love -so I know the quality gap between the 1500 dollar dud ebike and the 5000 dollar Trek Rail is too huge. Where is the middle ground? Where is the quality mountain ebike that goes to the grocery store AND shreds single track? Well my search led me to a California E-Bike location. I met Kent and he showed me several examples of bike to ebike conversions. Cargo bikes, Road bikes and Mountain bikes. So even after all my research and testing, here was a new option for me. Kent showed me that what I needed to do was to go find that “grocery getter single track slayer” and then we could convert it. That opened up a world of bikes. I immediately went to Craigs List and found a 2022 Marin Pine Mountain 1. It is a chrome molly frame and was intended to be a bike packing platform. It is a hardtail with 11-51 wide range gearing, on a single ring pedal set up. It also has a nice Rockshock Reverb up front. I paid 800 dollars for it and got exactly what I wanted to ride. I added a rack so it carries panniers and more. On single track it rides like the solid mountain bike it is. So once I had the bike I contacted Kent at California E-Bike and we got started. The experience is like buying a custom car. Kent went over the options and sizes and I selected a 1000Watt Bifang mid mount motor and a 52 volt 20Ah triangle battery. Kent’s skill in assembly and workmanship was well worth the cost of the package. He did a beautiful job. I told him it had to be Cool! And it is. He created a Marin Pine Mountain 1 E Bike that I have been using now for over 2 months and over 350 miles. This bike blows away my friends e bikes in both speed and power. For range I have gone over 40 miles and 4000 feet of elevation and ended up towing the Trek back home! I’m doing rides that used to take me all day and now I can whip them out after dinner! I recommend California E-Bike whole heartedly. However to make the best of this approach you should already be able to understand and work on a bike. It’s not a DIY eBike but the maintenance is. The motor and battery add to the existing mechanicals. I have no problem doing the maintenance now that Kent has me all set up. If you only ride street maybe this is not as much of an issue. I hammer this bike against rocks, trails, and creek crossings. I take it up steep dirt roads that I could never ride analog. And I can now bike to the grocery store/farmers market AND bring 30 lbs of food and beverages uphill back home. SHAZAM! Truly for me this is the middle ground/sweet spot I was looking for. The bike fits on my Kuat Rack and does everything I wanted. The $2K conversion on the $800 dollar bike was SO worth it. I laugh at those funky $1500-2500 campground E Bikes that are really heavy and useless to me. For value and capability I feel that with California E Bike I beat the system. My experience with this horrible company was identical to that of the user HealthyRoots who posted below. This is the first time I’ve legitimately felt scammed by a company. It has been 3 weeks since I placed my order for a programming cable and two motor stabilizers. “Jeanette” made a shipping label and then never shipped my order. I’ve emailed four times and received no reply, which is odd considering before I get placed the order “Jeanette” was very prompt with several replies (within 24 hours). 3 weeks, no items in the mail, no updates to shipment information, no refund, zero clarifying information. Reading the reviews here now have confirmed my suspicions that this company is a scam. I’ll now be contacting my credit card company and the BBB to resolve things. Save yourself the hassle and spend your money elsewhere.

I placed an order on 11/3/23. I received an order confirmation but the items never shipped. I have sent two additional email inquiries since no phone number is listed on the website. They have received no response. On 11/17/23 I received an email that 25% of my order had shipped. It has still not arrived as today is 11/20/23 but I don’t want a partial order. I refuse to pay for parts that are useless to me without the full kit! Ship it together or don’t ship it at all. Now, after reading another recent review, I realize the only person responding to inquiries is “Jeanette” in sales. I’m convinced this is not a real person and the only “named” contact at this business. I am assuming I have been scammed. I will be reporting them to the better business bureau, refusing any partial packages that arrive, and disputing the charges on my credit card.
