Bikes Bikes and more Bikes. Mt Airy Bicycles is a diamond in the rough for two wheel cycling afficionado. They literally gave more Bikes than any shop in the area, if not the entire state. Old Bikes, new Bikes, road, mountain, touring, recumbent , monocycle if it's got whees pedals and gears they've got it. Larry is a living legend and knows his stuff.. There's no substitute for experience, and that's exactly what Mt Airy Bikes delivers. They are all about riding and cycling because they live it every day. This isn't your boutique type shop. Expect to see tires, innertubes, and chin lube strewn around. And test rides are welcomed. Try finding a shop like this anywhere else. It's not going to happen. Mt Airy Bikes is practically always open, and the best part is they'll get you on on a Saturday afternoon to get you back on the road. Hands down, best place to live out your cycling fantasy. They service what they sell. Oh, and yes, they carry accessories and the parts you need or were not aware of. There is too much to list. Try it and see. Easy to find, great parking, and fair prices. Thanks.

Best bike shop in seven countries! Mt. Airy Bicycles is better than I've seen in England, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada or Switzerland and it's only 20 minutes from home. Actually, that's eight countries including USA!

So not knowing what I was buying, I got completely ripped off with the purchase of a cat trike. I just found the exact same model for half the price I paid. And I traded us road bike also. Wtf. How could I be so stupid? Then I went back within the next six months because I wanted a two wheel. Larry tried to rip me off again. Only wanted to give me 40 to 50% of what I paid for the cat trade in And I thought he was a good guy. Unless you’re a superb negotiator beware. Personally, I’ll never go there again and I’ll rag his business every time I get the chance.

Went looking for a nice kids bike, like a Woom or Frog. Called in advance, the owner said he had some good options. Nope, as I found out after driving 45 minutes there with my kiddo. It was an awful experience. The owner was a terrible listener, full of himself, and overconfident. He talked at me rather than having a conversation. I don’t think he paused for a second to consider that a customer had done some research (lots). Or has some experience with biking (20 years: road biking, MTB, commuting, long-distance, velodrome). Or has asked friends for advice (four). The kids bike market segment has changed dramatically in the last five years with Prevalo and Woom and others — and it is useful to stay up to date. I calmly told an employee and the owner it was the worst experience I’ve ever had at a bike shop. The employee seemed to understand what I meant. The owner said something like “my personality is not for everybody”. I was stunned that the owner didn’t really care that he had disrespected a customer. If you read reviews on Yelp, you’ll see many similar reviews. I recommend avoiding this shop, even if it is your closest option. I’m all about locally owned bike shops! Luckily there are other ones that work better: almost any other one.

I shipped my recumbent trike from Idaho to Washington DC for the face of America ride. The bike shop that disassembled my trike broke the barrel bolt for the carbon crankset. Larry was unable to get the part to fix my trike, so he made a part using one of his tools to fix my trike. Larry believes in thinking outside of the box and at times seems like a magician getting things up and running. If it was not for Larry I would have flown across the United States for nothing. Thank you very much Larry for all you do for us!
