Customer reviews for Rochester Cycling show a significant contrast in experiences. One customer reported two disappointing visits, citing a lack of helpfulness and expertise from the staff. They felt that the staff was dismissive and unwilling to provide assistance with sizing and product information for bike helmets and cycling shoes. The customer expressed frustration at the lack of personalized service and expertise, which they expected from a specialty shop. They felt they could have obtained better information through online research.

In contrast, another customer shared a positive experience with e-bike maintenance. They praised the shop for their honest and compassionate service, particularly regarding a Trek e-bike with over 2000 miles. The customer was satisfied with the thorough repairs and cleaning, and highly recommended the shop for its helpfulness and integrity.

These reviews suggest that Rochester Cycling has inconsistent customer service. While some customers experience excellent and helpful service, others report significant issues with staff knowledge and customer interaction. Potential customers should be aware of these mixed reviews and consider them when choosing this shop.

I have come here twice now, and have left disappointed and empty-handed both times. I might as well go blindly shopping on the internet. I'm just one person and the other reviews for this shop are great, so my experiences left me scratching my head a bit. The first time, I came to purchase a bike helmet for my daughter, specifically to support local and also to make sure that I was making an informed purchase. When I came in, nobody said hello to me but I went and found a salesperson and explained that I was looking for a bike helmet for my 5 year old and asked if someone could help me. The clerk waved their hand in the direction of the kids' bike helmets and said, "They're over there on that shelf." I asked if someone could help me figure out sizing, and the clerk again said, "The sizing info is on the boxes, everything we have is there." He didn't even come out from behind his desk. It became clear at that point that my only option was to pick through the boxes myself and that I wasn't going to be getting any help with measurements, sizing, or any information about specific brands and how they fit. I figured this experience was simply because I was looking for a kids' helmet and that maybe they were more knowledgable about adult cycling items. Fast forward to today when I made a special trip there to look for a pair of cycling shoes. I told them that I was having a hard time with my cycling shoes being too tight in the forefoot and that many people recommended I go to a local cycling store to be fit for another brand. The salesperson literally walked me over to the shoe wall and said, "Well, if you know your size, you could go to the Peloton website and order straight from them." I had just gotten done explaining that my Peloton shoes weren't fitting me well and that was why I was there. He was young, okay. He told me he could get someone else to help and I said that would be great. Another older gentleman came over and I explained that I was in the market for a brand of cycling shoes that had a wider fitting forefoot shape. He asked my size, I said 9, and he explained that he wasn't sure what size that would be since they run on European sizes. He didn't know what the European size was, didn't offer to look it up, and said that I would probably be best off ordering a shoe in the size I needed and maybe ordering it in a wide. Huh. From my understanding, there are plenty of cycling shoes that have a different fit throughout, and I told him I didn't need a wide size, just a brand that fit a certain way, which I had heard existed based on quite a bit of research online. They had about ten boxes of various cycling shoes, (very small inventory) but the guy couldn't even determine which ones were my size since he didn't know the European size conversions, and essentially had no information to offer me, other than that there's a brand called Lake which offers cycling shoes in wide sizes. I again explained that I didn't need a wide shoe so to speak. He didn't offer to measure my foot, didn't talk much about different brands or fits, and overall I felt like I could have done better just Googling my questions and ordering online. When you come to specialty shops like this, you expect that the expertise will offset the higher price point, which I was willing to pay, but after two visits here I can't see any reason to ever return. Maybe cycling shoes and helmets aren't expensive enough for them to justify better customer service for these items. It seems that specialty shops like these exist for folks who either 1.) Know exactly what they're doing and want a high end shop that stocks the best gear or 2.) Know nothing and want to talk to the people who know a lot. Perhaps this shop exists for the former, but I feel like it's a miss to not try to reach the customer base that could form a long-lasting love for cycling, if only they were able to understand and procure some of the foundational gear that makes them fall in love with a new sport.

Time for a quick favor? Reviews are so important for us. Please take a moment to share a few words about your experience - comments are greatly appreciated! User Andrea Wolfe On February of 2024, I purchased a Trek E-bike with only 6 miles on the odometer. Recently, I brought it in for a routine maintenance check-up, as it had accumulated over 2000 miles since its purchase. During my ride, I noticed an unusual knocking sound coming from the motor, a loose chain, and an inconsistent pedal rotation, which felt as if the pedals were skipping. After leaving my bicycle at the Rochester cycling business, I was confident that all the necessary repairs would be taken care of. I am pleased to report that my bike is now functioning smoothly, with all its components feeling secure and well-adjusted. Additionally, the bike was thoroughly cleaned during the maintenance process. I have been praising Rochester Cycling since I bought this bike. I recommend your company to anyone and everyone who will listen to me. Thank you so much for all you've done. I truly appreciate a business that is honest, compassionate, and believes in helping, instead of taking advantage of its customers. I recently went in to get my chain swapped out. Matt and his team were super helpful, knowledgeable, and accommodating as usual. They knocked it out quickly and shot me a text to say it was ready while I was shopping. I really enjoy going into Rochester Cycling whether I'm out on a bike ride or if I need something addressed. Matt is super knowledgeable. My wife did a bike fitting with him and was very happy with the adjustments. I've also purchased shoes here as Matt was great with fitting / sizing after I was having cramps due to fit issues. Gone now! Highly recommend!

I am in retail so I set the bar pretty high for customer service. I can't say enough good things about this place. I dropped off two Treks that I though had bottom bracket bearings going out. They both ended up needing new chains. They were able to get BOTH bikes out the same day! Incredible service guys! Fast and Friendly!

Staff was very accommodating and he took the time to fit the bike with a different part to suit my need. Emonda is a great bike with a pleasing black and blue colour scheme, aptly suited for the cycling enthusiast in me with the proper budget.
