When it hits 70° in March before the official start of Spring, you can be assured Washingtonians of all ages will be headed outdoors. We were no exception to this. I should preface by saying my back went out and unable to be active with my young son. We came up with a solution, taking him to the park to ride where I could gently watch him. Well, as soon as we put air in one tire and moved on to the second one, it deflated like a sad balloon in the corner at a party. Lo and behold Google brought us to Deschutes River Cyclery. Adam answered and let us know the hours and expected turnaround for drop off. We came on down, and from the moment we saw the front door I knew this was the place to go. Adam had a customer he was helping, and was able to get to us quickly. Turn around time was exactly as he said, and he even stayed around a little extra to let us get there. We were greeted by his shop dog Bea, who is cute as can be. He let us know what was wrong with the tire and we paid a fair price. I expected way more, in honesty I never asked ahead of time! In summary, Adam is a stand up human, his dog is adorable and if you are interested in kind people, cute dogs and a great bike shop for all your cycling needs then shop local and go to Deschutes. I know for sure even though I have a fun Cruiser style bike, I'll be back for a check-up or if my son's bike needs more TLC!

I had a flat tire and needed to get it assessed and fixed. The most common solution is to remove the tire, assess the tire and rim, replace the rim strip, and put in a little rubber (boot) plug into the hole (this is a tubeless tire). This process would generally take an experienced bike mechanic about 20 minutes. Parts and consumables are about $15 bucks. I took my wheel in and was verbally quoted $30-40 bucks, which sounded reasonable and in line with what labor and replacement items should cost. So I left the wheel with the shop, and about an hour later got a message saying that it was done. Walked back to the shop and was charged...$60!! Even allowing for a $10 tolerance for unexpected developments being charged $60 bucks for a job that should've only cost $35 is egregious and outrageous. I freely admit that I asked for same-day turnaround, but I didn't ask for 1 hour turnaround. I was told that the labor is $45/hour. THEY ALSO DIDN'T BOTHER TO FINISH THE JOB!! Look at the picture, you'd think for $60 bucks they'd finish the job and trim the boot (plug)!!! I hope this information helps other potential customers think critically about whether DRC is the kind of business you want to patronize. I've tried to patronize them in the past and have never walked away happy. I certainly will never utilize them in the future.

4:30 on a Thursday afternoon seemed like a reasonable time to go to a bike shop for some hand grips. Ended up going to REI. Oh well.

Just got a rack and a pair of panniers here. Good advice, quick service, fair price. They told me up front I could get better prices online, but I like having a bike shop in town -- especially since Kevin, who was minding the store when I picked up the panniers, reconfigured the rack on the spot so they'd fit better. Try getting Amazon to do that!

I've always taken my bike here for routine maintenance and bigger projects, and have always been very pleased with the customer service and results. They're kind, helpful, communicative, and super knowledgeable. Definitely my go-to bike shop in Olympia!
